Guest guest
I find this a very interesting problem. At the outset, seeking the knowledge of a suitably qualified professional is number 1. That aside, the important thing is to remember that IBS is not a disease as such it is a SYNDROME. That is to say there are many things that cause the signs. One thing I believe in very strongly is psyllium husk. This is a soluble fibre as compared to say bran which is an insoluble fibre. During the digestive process, certain fatty acids are produced from soluble fibre that are required to maintain the health of the bowel wall. An unhealthy bowel can't be expected to work properly. It is for this reason that it is recommended to help prevent colonic cancer. While psyllium husk is touted as a treatment for constipation it does so by increasing the strength of the bowel not just by lubrication as would happen with oils for example. It doesn't cause diarrhoea. Psyllium husk is sold under the trade name of Metamucil here in Australia. Guest guest
Here is some advice about IBS from Dr. Bill Harris: http://www.vegsource.com/articles2/harris_irritable_bowel_syndrome.htm One thing to try is peppermint per http://www.vegsource.com/articles/naturopath_kitchen.htm: PEPPERMINT. Leaf tea or oil of peppermint has a direct antispasmodic action on the smooth muscle of the digestive tract (4). In crampy abdominal pain such as occurs with irritable bowel syndrome or after a meal eaten in haste, peppermint tea or enterically-coated capsules of peppermint oil can bring relief without the need for either over-the-counter pills or pharmaceuticals. As an after dinner tea, peppermint is a wonderful choice to aid digestion. At one point I had some digestive problems from taking Celebrex (arthritis drug). I had bleeding in my stomach and still have GERD. The gastroenterologist had this list of bland stuff to eat and said no pepper, garlic, or mint. What I learned myself is that garlic and mint are actually good for digestion and that red pepper (cayenne) has healing properties. You can put it on an open wound, and although it feels like burning, it actually heals. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ from Maida Please sign my petition: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/738171316

Guest guest
Hi, all! Peggy, I've found that when I eat more raw foods, I had far less problems with IBS. I have not been successful at being 100% raw for any length of time, but judging from the results I've seen in my efforts so far, the raw diet would cure IBS quite well. My system feels very clean, and...light, maybe might be a good word when I eat lots of fruits and veggies. I hope you can find relief from your IBS, I know what a painful and inconvenient condition it can be. Guest guest
Does eating raw allow for grains. I'm considering at this point that I may have a wheat/gluten thing going on. Perhaps the raw diet took away these things that could have been the culprit. Alicia Richards <Alicia716 wrote: Hi, all! Guest guest
Good morning, Although I don't use any supplements for anything, the woman that asked about Irritable Bowel Syndrome this past week might be interested in some of the comments from this syndicated columnist - Dr. Peter Gott. This morning he mentioned an over the counter supplement. You can find out something about it at this link: http://www.irritable-bowel-syndrome.ws/digestive-advantage.htm This is an info site, not the mfgrs. site. I did an internet search and found that IBS has been discussed and disputed widely (possibly indicating that no one has found the root cause yet, or that there are many variables). You may find something helpful there. http://www.everydayhealth.com/PublicSite/searchEHResults.aspx?q=ibs Hope this helps, Nick Hein Morgantown, WV
