Guest guest
Hi, As a former New Yorker (Manhattanite), and long time raw foodist, and the editor, publisher and founder of the online magazine _www.RawFoodsNewsMagazine.com_ (http://www.RawFoodsNewsMagazine.com) , I can tell you some things about these places listed below. I'll put my comments in boldface brackets at various places below... Judy _vegwriter_ (vegwriter) In a message dated 1/31/2007 12:44:38 A.M. I don't know about hotels, etc., but you can use the addresses below to find the best location, then hit Google! (I'll pass on your email to a NYC raw friend.) Here are some of the raw places I know about: Bonobo's Restaurant 18 E. 23rd Street at Madison Avenue overlooking Madison Square Park New York City, NY 212-505-1200 _http://www.bonobosrestaurant.com_ (http://www.bonobosrestaurant.com) [Excellent, purely raw vegan food; they love to give out free tastes of anything and everything in the place. They want to make sure you order what you love. This place is large, with a very high ceiling. They're open for lunch and dinner, but they don't stay open very late.] Pure Food and Wine 54 Irving Place (17th St.) New York, NY 10003 212-477-1010 _http://purefoodandwine.com_ (http://purefoodandwine.com) [Expensive, upscale, trendy spot. The food is very tasty, but purists should know that it's not 100% raw. They use some non-raw ingredients. This place is a great place to go on a fancy date.] Quintessence (I'm not sure if they are still open - call first) http://www.quintessencerestaurant.com 353 East 78th Street (or 263?) New York, New York 10021 Phone: 212-734-0888 [This upper East side location is no longer open. Quintessence used to have three locations, including this one. You will find Quintessence on East 10th Street between First Ave. and Avenue A. It's a small place, and the food is inventive and wonderful.] Caravan of Dreams, An organic vegetarian restaurant in New York City, presents: Raw Food on the Run - Manhattan's first raw food delivery service. 405 East 6th Street, New York, NY 10009 _http://www.caravanofdreams.net/_ (http://www.caravanofdreams.net/) [i once got food poisoning at Caravan, which is only part-raw. I know someone else who did also.] THE PLANT – is a space intended for the creation, experimentation, distribution and promotion of raw food. The 4000 sq. ft. commissary kitchen and cafe devoted to raw food preparation, education and distribution. As the production hub for all the Blue Green Organic Juice Cafes, The Plant in Dumbo is the first model of its kind at a time when the need for fresh, clean and organic nutrition is of paramount importance to us all. http://www.theplantindumbo.com 25 Jay Street Brooklyn, NY 718-722-7541 _contact_ (contact) [Fabulous food. But it might not be 100% raw. Ask about the ingredients before you order.] Heirloom vegetable cuisine http://heirloomnyc.com/ 191 Orchard St. New York, NY 10002 212-228-9888 [unless this place has changed, it doesn't have raw food on the menu. It was a cooked place.] Candle 79 154 E. 79th Street New York, NY 10021 212-537-7179 Candle 79 is a new vegan/organic restaurant featuring local seasonal produce, the menu features raw food options. Chef Angel Ramos is always creating delicious raw desserts to top off your fine dining experience [unless this place has changed, there are only one or two raw options on the menu.] Counter Vegetarian Restaurant 105 First Avenue New York, NY 10003 212-982-5870 A vegan restaurant in New York that serves many raw dishes as well. Counter is open late! [When I was last there, in 2005, there were very few raw menu items.] Jubbs Longevity LifeFood Store 508 East 12th Street (@ Avenue A) New York, NY 10009 888-420-8270 212-358-8068 www.jubbslongevity.com This is a lifefood café serving beverages, wraps, and sunfood-friendly products.
