Live Music: Ambient Gong Music by Dean Moore Saturday 9/9 at 7:30pm Dean Moore has lent his percussive talents to dance and theatrical productions, experimental music, pop bands, and opera. His ambient gong music is spent from many hours exploring the sonic possibilities and textures of his gongs and cymbals, many of them collected on his travels throughout Asia. Donation gladly accepted. Honey Tasting: Exploring the World of Honey by Thomas Lee Saturday 9/16, 2pm to 3:30pm Honey is arguably nature's original source of sweetness. It has been prized by many cultures as the food of the gods, and has many reputed medicinal and even magical properties. Thom Lee, local artist, educator, and beekeper will introduce you to the world of honey. Come sample the subtle nuances and dramatic differences among varietal honeys form all over the world. $8 /person. Your payment reserves your seat. Live Music: Flutes and Harp by Blue Lotus Saturday 9/16 at 7pm Please come enjoy the lush, relaxing atmosphere created by these two beautiful musicians. The heartfelt musical relationship of this duo is a perfect compliment to the teahouse. Donations are appreciated. Live Music: Koto & Shakuhachi by Duo En Sanshin & Songs by Mako Willet Saturday 9/23 at 7:00pm Elizabeth Falconer is one of the only Westerners to be recognized in Japan as a master of the koto. She plays with incredible nuance and depth. John Falconer has a beautiful command of the expressive overtones and whispers of the shakuhachi flute. The two of them together bring gorgeous sweetness inot the room. Mako Willet, born and raised in Okinawa, plays the sanshin (shamisen), a three-stringed traditional Okinawan instrument. Her beautiful voice is a stong accompaniment to the sanshin. Donations gladly accepted. Tea Class: Tea Roasting - Tasting, Talk, and Demonstration Saturday 9/30, 2pm to 3:30pm This class is a chance to learn first hand what roasting does to a tea. We will sample a series of roasted and unroasted teas of the same type to learn exactly what roasting does to a tea. While we are sampling our tea, you will learn how tea was traditionally rosted and how it is roasted now. We will also put a small amount of tea in a Taiwanese tea roaster. Come deepen your palate and learn exactly how roasting effects a tea. $15 /person. Your payment reserves your seat.
