Guest guest
I plan to go ahead with the picnic potluck. Right now, I'm leaning towards 10-4. There are two primary places to picnic in Discovery Park (that I know of.) One is near the Visitor Center. There is a basket ball court, two tennis courts, and a volleyball court, all of which are blacktop. The volleyball court has no net, but has some very sturdy posts with eye hooks for attaching a net. There is also a kids play area with slides, overhead rings, and one of those overhead lines with a swing on a pulley, so I (...I mean the kids, of course!) can go sailing through the air for 40 feet or so (albeit slow.) There are several picnic tables in the area and some open field area for frisbee, etc. Because this is near the Visitor Center, It is likely to be more popular and busy. Parking may be more of a challenge, though it is not far a walk to street parking just outside the park. The other area is by the North Parking Lot. There is lots more parking and a large open grassy area (much larger than a football field!) There are several tables there. There is lots of space, which is surrounded by forrest. There are no tennis courts, etc., but lots of room for setting up badminton or volleyball nets, etc. Both areas have restrooms nearby. Both have some picnic tables. Both have grassy areas. One has more recreational options. Both have access to the walking trails. Please let me know which is of most interest. If nobody wants the tennis/basketball/volleyball, then I say the other area. If there is an interest in activities: Does anyone have a volleyball net? Does anyone have a basket ball? Tennis anyone? (I'll bring my racquet if you do. If we choose that area.) I have (pointless) lawn darts. (What is the point of a pointless game?) (It's OK, they're the non-dangerous kind!) I have a frisbee and a variety of balls (I mean volley, foot, soft, etc.) In case there is a shortage of tables, please plan to bring lawn chairs or camp chairs, etc. Perhaps a blanket. If someone has some poles for a tarp, I have a tarp for some extra shade. Any other thoughts? Jeff
