The plastic container is a concern, esp. if it pits like that. I have wanted to upgrade my blender and am trying to decide what to do. I have an old vita mix with the metal container. I can trade it in and get some credit on the new vitamix, but I think I will hold on to it for grinding tough dry seeds (flax) and herbs. I grind whole milk thistle and that stuff will definitely pit the plastic container, that herb seed is hard as little rocks. Vitamix does come with an optional container for grinding grains ('dry blade') that I think is made from some other material so it doesn't pit and get dull like the plastic. But it's another expense.
