Guest guest
Hi to Laura and the Wills and everyone else that is discussing the 12-step meeting. Thanks for having lunch at Chaco last week. As you know, I am very interested in starting a 12-step support group. However, there is a big difference to me in a " 12-step meeting " and a group that meets to share a meal regularly and swap recipes. While I would love to share a meal with other raw fooders, what seems to be truly lacking in Seattle is a safe and confidential place to come together with other men and women who want to share their experience, strength, and hope with each other and to help others recover and regain their health by eating a diet that is light, ethical, and sustainable. From what I have seen, 12-step groups are usually held in environments that are both confidential and quiet. Because of the sensitive nature that 12-step groups can have (e.g. people may want to disclose sensitive information that can make them emotionally vulnerable.) For this reason, I do not think that the Chaco Canyon Cafe is a suitable location for a 12-step meeting. I do think Chaco Canyon is a suitable place to eat meals together after a 12-step meeting (obviously since it's the only raw place in town), but for the meeting itself, I would prefer to meet somewhere that can provide more privacy and confidentiality than can be found in a restaurant, especially during business hours (further, the noises from blenders and juicers are very loud and distracting, the door would be opening and closing all of the time, people would be going in and out, etc. For these reasons, I can see that there might be different ideas about what a " 12-step meeting " is for. While I would love to meet regularly to share a meal, I do think this is different than 12-stepping. If there are people interested in attending the type of 12-step meeting I am talking about in this email, please email me off the list at mkinsman and we can pick a date, time, and place to meet in the next week or so to discuss how meetings can be structured, as well as possible dates, times, and locations. Thanks, Monika Kinsman P.S. I will be at the potluck tomorrow with my partner, Michale, and would be happy to discuss this with anyone at the party. Thanks.
