Guest guest
Hi all, I'm John, a new member as of today. I returned a few weeks ago from a life changing experience at the Sanoviv Medical Retreat in Baja, Mexico. While there I learned abour raw foods, the vegan lifestyle, etc. The first thing I did upon my return to Seattle is purchase a Samson 6 in 1 juicer so that I could continue my regimen from Sanoviv of twice daily wheatgrass shots as well as twice daily green juice. I returned to my full-time job last week and am now starting to struggle with the realities of what it takes to completely change my diet. Making a shot of wheatgrass, cleaning the machine, then making two ball jars of green juice every morning is a lengthy and laborious process - particularly with 2 toddlers yearning for my attention! So, my question is about storing the green juice. I attended several hours of lectures while at Sanoviv and learned all about the various juicers. I remember the nutritionist saying that with the Samson, one could store the juice for up to 8 hours. The trick is to freeze a small amount of water in a ball jar overnight, then in the morning fill it to the brim with the juice. I've done this several times and have been able to enjoy fresh, cold, green juice while at work. But as I mentioned it takes so long, I'd rather make it in the evening after the kids go to bed. What if I made the juice in the PM, stored in the fridge, and then didn't consume it until 10AM and 4PM? Will it truly go bad? I assume that it's better than nothing, but just want some expert opinions on the matter. In good health, John
Guest guest
John, Welcome to the group! Be sure to check out RawSeattle.org and our upcoming potlucks. Regarding the juice, I'm sure there is a gradual decline in the potency and quality in the juice over time. I doing it in the morning means added stress and perhaps not following through with the juice, then certainly, the evening is a better choice. The frozen jar sounds like a good trick to quickly cool down the juice. I was going to recommend putting the fresh juice right into the freezer to chill it quickly (up to an hour, depending on temp.), then transfer it to the frig. You could combine your pre-frozen jar trick with returning it to the freezer. Just don't forget it there!
