Guest guest
I bought two kinds of apples (after I just bought a case of Fuji from Central Market) at the U district farmers' market last week. Both are very good. One is Spitzenburg from the Grouse farm, brix about 15. They are kind of ugly this year but the flavor is still good. They are not sugar sweet like fuji but have a rich flavor. The Spitzenburg is Thomas Jefferson's favorite apple. The other one I bought was Estar from the Cliffside. This variety is not so well-known here but is a European favorite. My first bite felt sour but it seemed to turn sweet afterwards. The sample I took brixed a little over 16. They have a more delicate texture than Fuji.
