Boy do I wish I could take back my original post now....although, for those who believe that things happen for a reason, maybe it wasn't all bad... trschiavone <trschiavone wrote: I am fairly a newcomer to Raw Seattle and I have been reading about this handwashing issue. ASTOUNDING!!!!!! What started out as a simple question to the general chat community turned out to be unbelievably 2 days worth of chats that turned into mostly a forum for those who wanted to get something off their chests. I cannot believe what I ended up reading in what is supposed to be a friendly chat room for raw fooders who are interested in gaining information about raw food lifestyle. This turned out to be a lynch mob of some sort. UNREAL. I don't really know what to say except I am totally flabbergasted at what ensued on this site. Hopefully we can all stick to the simple way of a raw food lifestyle and not spend 2 days on NOTHING BUT THIS handwashing issue. I am in for a good debate but I am not sure I really do want to meet any of you after all this has been said and done. And over handwashing. Who would have thought? Guest guest
>This turned out to be a lynch mob of some sort. UNREAL. ***** I saw a few semi-negative comments, but a lynch mob? No. This is NOTHING compared to some lists I have been on, where I have seen name calling, swearing, even threats. Count up the truly negative posts on this list and I'm sure you will find they are less than a tenth of a percent. But I would agree that most people (people in general, not just here) don't really understand the fundamentals of productive dialogue, as opposed to debate. In debate you try to score points for yourself and your already-decided-upon position rather than the dialogue approach, where you share what you know and try to be open to what the other person is saying. You learn a lot more when you dialogue. Debaters may agree with 98% of what the other guy says, but instead of acknowledging that 98% they will focus on the 2% they disagree with. I am facilitating a weekly dialogue group now (focused on nondual teachings) and I have seen this many times. >I am in for a good debate but I am not sure I really do want to meet any of you after all this has been said and done.
