Guest guest
I must add to my previous post " to me " ...your posts to me were kind. I guess I didn't see my original handwashing post as a complaint as much as a plea (yes, for something I may very well have to just get over). And as I said earlier, I was really caught off guard by the immediate responses I received. I belong to another list, " Seattle Veggie Families " , to whom I also sent this post. The thoughts (and suggestions) from them were completely on the other side of the spectrum (and I don't consider any of them " germ phobes " nor comformists). We have certain rules to follow over there too, as on this list and yours.....which brings me to a point I feel that I have to make.....in my handwashing post to you all, I was asking for suggestions for my particular matter, not whether or not you believed in handwashing...what I am getting at is that I am allowed to have rules in my home as well (I just don't want to offend while trying to enforce them). Nora, you mentioned earlier that members of your list need to respect your rules - why am I so different? Was it I who felt " affronted " or those of you who don't wash your hands? Also, it might have been obvious (to those who were so quick to tell me that it was none of my business whether or not my guest swash their hands, etc.) that I have never been faced with this " belief " until now. I suppose this is why I took offense - I felt blindsided. One bit of advice I might offer to those who are so quick to inform people that you don't wash your hands....you might want to consider that the very people who you're hoping to teach about raw foodism may indeed be turned off as soon as they catch wind of this. Maybe " ease " them into it rather than " pounce " . My mom and I love Chaco Canyon Cafe...if my mom was aware of this handwashing issue, she'd never eat there again, and surly her thoughts on raw foodism would be a little " tainted " . Sure, restaurants may have their handwashing rules, but if one truly believes that, not only is it pointless, but even harmless, they might just not wash them after using the loo - who would know, right? I guess this is all some more " food " for thought " I think what really happened, Sheree, is that you expected lots of support and validation for your original complaint about people not washing their hands at your house. You were surprised when that didn't happen, and perhaps you saw it as an affront. I can't speak for others but all I did was share my opinion that handwashing isn't necessary, and provided a few brief reasons why not. It's nothing personal. The above compliment you posted to me about my approach to you makes me think it's not really me that you're accusing of being unfriendly or disrespectful anyway. Regards, Nora Nora, I don't believe that my simple request for suggestions on persuading my house guests to wash their hands was treated with respect and friendliness by you and a few others. Guest guest
Good morning Sheree, I didn't say you couldn't or shouldn't have rules in your home. I sure do. I just tried to show you a way to resolve your concerns about handwashing by suggesting that you consider the idea that there might be no connection at all between it and whether or not people get sick. <<< " to those who are so quick to inform people that you don't wash your hands.... " For myself, I only share this fact in 'raw-friendly' circles, like the RawSeattle list. Smiles, Nora
