Guest guest
Okay, here's the deal on mailing - it sucks. I sent a box of food to a friend in NYC. I got a styro box (10 " x 14 " ) + 10 pounds dry ice (too much) = $25. To ship 2nd day air to NYC via USPS it was $29 = $54 total not counting my gas for running around and my time. The food in the box might have been worth $25 if that! Not worth the cost unless you really love the person, which I do. BUT since then I have found that my co-op (in Everett) gets styro boxes every so often and will save them for me. AND on Tuesdays they get small 1# bags of dry ice I can have for free. When I get ready to send again, I will for sure go this way! Shari

In cooler months one might get away with less. Given post-9/11 hassles wrt dry ice as a hazardous material, though, I've found that it's easier to load up with water ice and just ship Priority Mail. Mind you, this was when I had an inexhaustible supply of outdated emergency water packets that froze up beautifully. > BUT since then I have found that my co-op (in Everett) gets styro > boxes > every so often and will save them for me. Pet stores are a good source of these, too. It'd be nice if they weren't trading in the lives of fish, but aside from that .... I used to get all I could use from a pet store in Everett.
