Guest guest
After owning one of the newer model vitamixes for several years I bought one of the older (steel container) models on ebay. I was really surprised how poorly it processed things compared to the newer models. I could never get it to get things smooth unless I let it run so long it heated things way too much. As people have said the blades are blunt and it just doesn't compare to the newer models. I'd sell your old one on ebay and buy the newer model. In regards to alternatives to yogurt - dairy products are something I really miss (although they were horrible for me) - and the thing I've found that reminds me the most of yogurt - something that soothes by craving for dairy - is tahini salad dressing. When I'm not working in Seattle I live in Patagonia and eat at the Tree of Life frequently and when they serve that dressing there I swear I'm eating yogurt. You can probably find many recipes for it on the web but it's basically sesame seeds, lemon juice and water blended up well in the vitamix.
