Guest guest
Hi, my name's Erik, & I'm new to this message forum. Basically, I live in the Seattle area, and have been into raw foods for about 5 years. I use to work at a natural food store, and they happened to be selling the books Survival into the 21st Century, and the Raw Food Diet(NFL). I was already eating some raw foods(and juices) at the time having read books by Bernard Jenson, and Norman Walker, but basically at that point, I decided to REALLY give it a try. Now, 5 years later, and I'm still lovin' it(thanks to the Creator). I go thru phases. Sometimes I'm extremely strict, but alot of times I just hover around 85-95% raw. I have a weakness for yerba mate, but other than that I don't have any real serious addictions to cooked food. I get do get cravings though. The most difficult thing for me is the lack of availability of products, and restaurants. I spent some time in Orange County(CA), and SF last summer, & was very surprised by the availability of raw foods. Every Co-Op, or natural food store that I went to had a pretty large selection of products. 1 Store in particular(Erewhon Market) in Hollywood had about 3 small aisles of nothing but rawfood products. Even the deli sections of the stores had ready made entrees, and Almond Milk(etc.). I also went to some restaurants like Urban Forrage(?) in SF, and RAW, The Good Mood Food Cafe, and Au Lac(in SoCal). To me, Au Lac was by far the best, and I went there so much that they probably got sick of me(Just Kidding). Seriously, it was very good, and I recommend to anyone who's really interested in raw cuisine to check it out. IMHO, its really worth it. Urban Forrage, and GMFC were good too, but they are more deli style. RAW is a pretty impressive restaurant as well. Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself, and ask a couple of questions to anyone who might be able to answer. Does anyone know about the Apple juice that their selling in some of the stores now that's supposedy pastuerized in a way that doesn't destroy the nutrients? And, also does anyone know anything about the treatment done to young coconuts before they're shipped here from Thailand? I read some info about it at youngcoconuts.com, but they never gave a final analaysis as to whether, or not the treatment was detrimental to the water, and the meat. Anyway, thanks, & take care.
