Guest guest
Hi Sheree, Even with equipment with temperature settings their calibration can be way off sometimes, so when its important I always double-check to see what temperature really is. You could get a basic indoor/outdoor thermometer and use that to see what the lower temperature setting of the dehydrator really is. I'm talking about the kind of thermometer that is a glass tube on a piece of plastic about 2 inches wide by 8 inches tall that hangs on a wall, and costs a few dollars. They go up to about 130 degrees, so this should be fine for checking on dehydrating raw food that shouldn't ever go above 115 degrees. Usually they are accurate within a couple degrees, so this will be plenty good enough to get an idea of temperature ranges for raw food drying. You could just lay the thermometer flat on the dehydrator tray, leave it there for several minutes, and then pull it out and quickly read it before it cools off. I'd try leaving the thermometer in there for different lengths of time to find out how long it takes to warm up. If it hadn't warmed up to the tray temperature, then you might be drying the food at too hot a temperature. If the dehydrator has a thermostat that cycles a heating element on and off, you might want to try making a bunch of readings to see how hot it gets at the upper end of the on cycle. May your day be filled with clarity, grace, progress, and warm laughter, Roger - " Sheree " <goldenrae2001 <RawSeattle > Wednesday, June 22, 2005 10:16 AM Re: [RawSeattle] Re: Raw Food PANCAKES! > Hi, > > I'm going to attempt to make these - a couple of questions: > > I have an old school Excalibur (which belonged to my grandmother) that has yogurt, fruit, meat, etc. settings, but doesn't give the temperatures - does anyone happen to know what setting would be 100 degrees? > > I plan to make these pancakes and bring them to Vashon for a raw breakfast I'm preparing on Saturday - how are they cold?
