Guest guest
Dear WashPIRG supporter, As you probably know, we've been working to protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge for the last several months. With Earth Day approaching, it's time to hit the streets in support of the environment. Join us on Earth Day weekend, Saturday April 23rd, as we organize to protect the environment. We'll be meeting at the Freemont Baptist Church at 717 N. 36th St at 11am. We'll hit the streets to gain support for the Arctic and wrap up around 4pm. We hope to see you there! Then ask your friends and family to join us by forwarding this message to them. http://washpirg.org/WA.asp?id=679 & id4=ES Background: We urgently need to get more people involved in the campaign to protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. The Senate voted 51-49 to include a provision allowing drilling in the federal budget, a very narrow margin that we believe we can overcome when the Senate votes on the overall budget - if we can keep the heat on by building our volunteer base. So this year, to celebrate Earth Day, we've teamed up with Sierra Club, National Wildlife Federation and other environmental groups to come up with a plan to double our volunteer strength. Our goal: get at least 625 new people involved as volunteers and get 5,000 people involved in the campaign by contacting their senators. How are we going to do it? The simplest way possible - on Saturday, April 23, the day after Earth Day, volunteers like you will go out in pairs into your neighborhoods, knock on your neighbors' doors, talk to neighbors about the issues, and ask them to get involved. We expect big results - on this one day alone, we expect volunteers to have at least 12,500 conversations with their neighbors, get 3125 people involved in the campaign in some way, and recruit at least 625 of them to become volunteers - doubling our strength in just a few hours on a Saturday.
