Guest guest
Good evening, Today I had a bike fall again, and instead of bouncing right off the pavement I skidded a little bit first. The accident happened at low speed and I caught myself in the fall but got a little road rash (scrape) in the process. My questions for the list are.. 1) Is there anything recommended to accelerate healing of (minor) scrape wounds. 2) My hip hit the ground and is slightly sore from bruising. Is there anything recommended to accelerate healing for bruising? Just to describe the accident a little. The accident occurred when I was leaving a grocery store parking lot in an unfamiliar town. I was looking around to decide which way to turn and didn't notice the pothole in the middle of the driveway. My front wheel (20 " ) got stuck in it and I went over the handlebars, landing on the heels of my hands and my right knee -then right hip. I emphasize that I was going slowly so I was not injured beyond the minor scrapes and bruises. I reported the hole to the grocery store manager and he agreed to get it fixed so this doesn't have to happen to anyone else. Thank you. Guest guest
Sorry for what happened to you, Nick. From my experience the pulp of aloe vera leaves helps to accelerate healing of a scrape. You peel off the skin on one side of an aloe vera leaf with a knife, scrape a slice of the pulp and cover on your wound. You can secure the pulp with a bandaid. take care, Helen - Nick Hein RawSeattle Sunday, April 10, 2005 8:32 PM [RawSeattle] Oooops! Again. Guest guest
Hi Nick, My bicycle and motorcycle accidents were similar to yours in a general sense. Its easy to underestimate the general shock to the system from these experiences. Part of the problem is its easy to feel a bit foolish and minimize the situation. Even if there aren't any physical injuries, having an accident takes a lot out of you. This sets you up for more problems, which is where the expression " troubles come in threes " comes from. An increase of gentle nurturing of all kinds would be helpful in restoring your well-being. Making sure you get frequent small balanced meals that are easy to digest is helpful. Maybe you would even want to run them through the blender so they are soft and soothing, and take less energy to digest. Along with this some light exercise and lots of rest are needed. This would be a good time to emphasize living food in your diet made from the freshest ingredients possible. You need more than usual amounts of all types of nutrition to support the healing and replace what is lost through shock, and the fresher the food is, the more nutrition it has. If you are eating nuts or seeds, soaking them first helps shift the nutrients from storage forms to living forms, and makes them more digestible. I think the quality of the nutrition is also improved when you do this. The body has a lot of power to heal itself, and so the more you generally support the body, the more resources it has to devote to the healing process. Besides this being a good idea in general, it empowers the body to heal issues you might have missed noticing. May your day be filled with clarity, grace, progress, and warm laughter, Roger - " Nick Hein " <nick.hein <RawSeattle > Sunday, April 10, 2005 8:32 PM [RawSeattle] Oooops! Guest guest
Dear Nick, Herbal Ed's Salve is something I recommend to my clients for minor abrasions and conditions that are not healing as quickly as they should. It has Calendula, Chickweed, Plantain, Mullein, & St. John's Wart in a base of olive oil, propolis & wax from bees if you don't object, and I have found it more effective than other salves and better than Calendula alone which you can also use. For bruising, plenty of extra Vitamin C in whatever form you choose but I would in this case go with supplements for that and for extra enzymes. Some Naturopaths know about the effect of enzymes to clear up bruising and you might find someone who knows a particular enzyme supplement source that is more effective than others. Now others in the group may know more raw remedies but this is what I know. And one more thing. If you do find you have soft tissue muscular injuries show up down the road I hear there is a pretty good Hellerworker in Morgantown, anyway, that is active on the Hellerwork email group that I could find the name of.
