Guest guest
Good question Shari, After reading about the value of the calcium in sesame milk, I wondered just how much more or less calcium there was in the sesame seeds than what I usually eat, so I checked here to find out what some of the common foods in my diet were and what some of the foods commonly touted as good sources were. The results were kind of surprising. www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/index.html If you strain out and throw away anything, then there is the question of how much of the calcium is being thrown out. Usually I make my smoothies with a pudding consistency and eat them with a spoon, and so I don't strain out anything. I don't seem to do well with sesame, and since I eat a lot almonds, kale, and dried figs, decided I am probably getting plenty of calcium. If you can eat unshelled sesame seeds, they clearly are way beyond anything else as a source of calcium. To give you some idea of how much is a little or a lot, the USDA recommended daily intake for adults is 1,000-1,300mg depending you your age. mg calcium per 100g of whole food (about 3.5 ounces) Almonds 248 Fresh Broccoli 47 Carob flour 348 Dried figs 162 Dried Pumpkin seeds 43 Raw kale 205 Tahini 141 Unhulled sesame seeds 960 Walnuts 98 May your day be filled with clarity, grace, progress, and warm laughter, Roger - " Shari Viger " <shavig <RawSeattle > Sunday, April 03, 2005 2:20 PM Re: [RawSeattle] sesame milk > > Wonder how much calcium there is making the sesame milk from tahini...... > > Shari > > > > > >
