Guest guest
Jeff, The article did seem absurdly restrained, but the wrapup paragraph was good.... " However, " he concludes, " if someone wishes to improve their health and reduce their risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer, I would definitely suggest that they get away from the refined and processed foods that Americans usually eat and try to eat a wide variety of nutrient-dense foods, such as vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes and fish. " If this recommendation were followed (and it basically reflects the new food pyramid guidelines) we'd see ourselves in a whole new world. BTW. Here's the link to the actual report. There's a charge for it, one of my carpool partners is doing a study of diets so I've asked if she can get it for me. I'll let you know what I find out. http://archinte.ama-assn.org/cgi/content/full/165/6/684 I'm interested in finding out some other statistics about the study participants like rest heart rate, blood pressure, general health measures. This author earlier presented a study on CR(calorie restrictive) diets with nutrient-dense foods and showed benefits. Nick Hein
