Pharmaceutical approach to colds

In a CNN article on a cure for the common cold, I found this

interesting quote:

" Scientists are also looking for ways to block symptoms. When a virus

infects our cells, the immune system reacts by releasing chemicals

that lead to those runny noses and aching muscles.

" Future therapy might lie in blocking such chemicals, the National

Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases reports. "

This would be disasterous should they find a way to interfere with

nature's attempt at removing the cause. If you remove or block a

symptom from occurring, you will only get something worse in the end.

Imagine the fire being the virus and your house representing your

body. It's like holding a gun to a fireman's head to prevent him

from getting your house all wet. Well, your house won't get wet, but

your house will just burn down all the faster.

Will they ever learn?

Only humans would ever devote an entire industry and so much

attention to battling their own bodies! The body tries so hard to

overcome what humans but into it (vie foods, foreign matter on the

skin, polution, etc.), then to add insult to injury, humans try to

prevent that process from happening, at the same time (with drugs)

making the body more toxic!
