Vegfest 2005 Mar 12-13: is it raw at all?

I volunteered the past two years so I could get in for free, and raw

food has very little to do with the event. There are many companies

there which plug their prepared vegetarian products. There are also

books and classes.

As of a few years ago, the leaders of Vegetarians of Washington, prior

to starting the group, were not that raw-friendly (IMO). They weren't

too

encouraging for us raw foodists and didn't make provisions for us at

dinner events. The last two years I have conveyed my interest in

supporting their event through speaking/demos/book signings. They never

replied.

Some national groups such as NAVS (North American Vegetarian Society)

embrace raw foodists. At their conference last year in Johnstown, PA,

I was one of many raw food speakers (Doug Graham and

Loren Lockman were there). They even had a raw food section in the

cafeteria. They had raw food soups and entrees to go with salads and

fruits. Lots of non-raw foodists would visit the raw food station every

day!

Hopefully, Veg of WA are now more open to the raw movement and embrace

it as

an important segment of the vegetarian population, as well as a topic

of interest to those seeking information. I haven't been going, as

there weren't speakers I really wanted to hear. I may actually attend

this year.

Anyway, if anyone attends VegFest and listens to the speakers, consider

asking the speakers about the importance of raw foods in the human

diet. Also consider asking them (especially the doctors) about

digestive leukocytosis (the sharp rise in white blood cells after

consuming cooked food.)
