Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone knows ofany resources or experiences with

composting while living in an apartment. Sadly, I do not have a

belcony, so whatever I do must be indoors or right outside my front

door.

I would like to grow wheatgrass, herbs, etc. So far I am geting my

flats of grass from my Co-Op, but where to take the grass mats, etc

afterwards? If I grow it myself I can have a cycle of rich soil and

have a place to put what I discard.

Hi Helen (and welcome!).

I've read about indoor worm bins as a composting solution for

apartment dwellers. There is a wonderful little book called " Worms

Eat My Garbage " that addresses it, and has specifications for

building them (you can go simple or fancy, depending on your budget

and desire).

Worm bins don't smell too bad if the the ratio of worms to garbage

(produce scraps, leaves, newspaper, etc.) is right.

The " vermicompost " is a very concentrated compost.

And, it's fun!

Hope that helps,

Tina

Thanks so much Tina :) I will see if my local store has this book or

something on it. It's funny but I wish there was a place I could

dump/store my stove as that spot would be great for a little bin. I

think my building manager would have a heart attack if the stove was

even temporarly gone...LOL! I wish there were apts set up for raw

foodists. I know that if I ever buy a house I am ditching the stove :)

Have a great rest of the weekend,
