Guest guest
Audrey, I did see them mixing up a salad behind the counter as we ate but I did not have one. For the most part, I rarely ever get salads when I go out (other than salad bar) because I hate paying a primeum for iceburg lettuce in a bowl with some carrot shredded over it (boring). And, honestly, it is tough to find an eating establishment that put much more effort into their salads than that. Consiquently we don't eat out a ton. But, we are not legalistic on what we do and don't eat, we just try to make good choices each day. We have 2 kids and a third on the way that as of yet, have never experienced sickness. I feel like part of our responsibility as parents is to show our children how easy it really is to avoid sickness. Since I mentioned salad bars, I want to ellaborate on those as well. There are only really 3 that I venture to very often. They are all pretty good, still not what I would make them but hey, these folks are in business I guess. Anyway, one of them that some folks call my office as I meet a lot of folks there is the Larry's Market on Pacific Hwy S. Betty there does a really nice job of keeping the salad bar up. It is sort of expensive but I eat healthy when I go there! The next is Zoopa in Tukwila and/or Bell Square. Both of these are really good and they have implemented a lot more Vegan dishes this last year. Lonnie is the manager of the Tukwila store and our family always gets really good service when we go in there. Partly because the whole staff knows I drive racecars but what the hay! The final one is sort of a unfrequent visit for us so I hesitate to mention it but I imagine they have kept it up pretty well. That is the Claim Jumpers in Redmond Town Center. To our disappointment, the one in Tukwila did not put a salad bar in when it was built so we visit Redmond once in a while. Hope everyone is having a nice day. We are so blessed to live in the time and the country that we do. We had dinner for my moms birthday last night at Café Flora (cafeflora.com) on Madison St. downtown Seattle. It was a nice dinner and we were happy to hear they recommended and spoke highly of Chaco Canyon Café. BTW, if you go there, try to get Daniel as your waiter, he was awesome! Anyway, for the funny part, as we were leaving, we noticed a sign across the street that was for some small grocery store. It was the type of sign that you can put letters on manually. It said something like this... " Whole Food, Beer, CIGS, Pizza, etc. " O- how the lack of knowledge is killing so many. Hi Jerrod, Does Cafe Flora have some good salads? My well intentioned friends got me a gift certificate for Christmas and I wasn't sure I'd be able to find anything to eat there that was raw, although I know they have great vegetarian food. Guest guest
Jerrod, Thanks for the mention of Claim Jumpers in Redmond, they are the one place most responsible for my raw conversion. For those who've never been there, their main claim to fame is serving too much of food that is too rich. I had been vegetarian before going there so I ordered a fish burger - the closest thing I could find to something healthy. (4 years ago) I got sick that night from it, at which point I decided " If I want to stay healthy why eat food that makes me sick? " . The next day I mentioned this to my neighbor Ramona Sturtevant and she gave me the Boutenko book " Raw Family " . I decided that I wanted what they got. I'm glad to hear they have a salad bar now - if there had been one at the time I never would have gotten sick and subsequently raw/healthy. When you go to any other restaurant you can always ask them to make you something special from their raw ingredients. I've had good luck with this. Most food preparers consider it kind of fun to cut up fresh vegetables in new combinations and know that the customer will be grateful for their (minimal) effort.
