Guest guest
For those interested in the remarkable uses of a fast check out the American Natural Hygenic Association's books relating to the subject. I am only recounting my own understanding of fast. There are really two kinds of fasting which obtain markedly different results. One way is " to eat very little or abstain from CERTAIN (my emphasis) foods. " By limiting your intake to one or two items, usually a juice or combination of thereof with some regimes adding a (sweeting) agent and/or spice (to target a specific organ in some cases) the body catabilizes the restricted nutrients within the chosen concoction causing partial detoxification. The gut still expends effort (work) to digest new material in this type of fast. The historical way is " to abstain from food. " Only distilled water is consumed. This fast allows the body to determine the precise priority of detoxification while COMPLETELY (my emphysis) resting the digestive system. Only stored waste is utilized by the body for daily requirements ridding it of unwanted, diseased, adipose, and damaged tissue throughout. Withholding all (new) nutrients from the body over a period of time gives the gut a needed rest and gently detoxifies all the bodies portions. Starvation ONLY occurs once ALL the extraneous tissue has been removed through the natural process of fasting. If you had a desire to detox only the kidneys, say, a juice fast might be easier to do with a food known to address the kidney. However, toxic load is distributed throughout the tissues and focusing upon only a certain area of the body may require multiple fasts targeting different areas to balance all the organs. One water fast of 5 days is sure to be more beneficial than even a ten day kidney fast because the toxic load is reduced 1) in priority of the body's determination which is certainly likely to differ from our own thought out (emotional) one, and 2) gives the gut a rest allowing organ rest also while removing putrid tissue. I believe this type of fast will provide more convincing and thorough results for any desired need in the shortest amount of time. However, I know that completely abstaining from all new nutrients with the addition of only distilled water is an EXTREMELY emotional thing. A juice fast is certainly a viable way to prepare for the more effective and efficient water fast. If someone is in good health a juice fast can provide a remarkable understanding of what a certain 'nutrient' is and it's specific effects on the body. But, if your goal is to detoxify the entire system a water fast might be preferable. When an animal is injured their impulse is to get to a dark, quiet place, sometimes not drink water even, and refrain from eating until almost complete recovery. It is passing strange that our human culture forces upon the sick person food. Little children are most likely to respect this natural response to illness but adults ususally force them to eat anyway. Imagine a family that fasted responsibly when illness came. I am not from this type of thinking but I have since indulged in a few 'real' fasts. It DID take me many years and experimentation with the first type of fast discussed. It took years to even go ONE day without any food and only water, so sure I was that I would die. After more many more years I have worked up to an eleven day fast. Too much fasting of either type in too short of time can cause its own complications. Research research research. Experiment experiment experiment. But be careful, as prolonged water fasts (10days+) for ill people should be medically supervised. Also, fasts focusing on one nutrient (short or long) can cause severe imbalances (selective organ detox) not noticed till much time afterward. You choose.
