I live in Palo Alto, and one of the famous stories here is how the founders of Cisco systems invented on of the most profitable products of the information age (network router) and took it to 83 professional investors who all told them their invention was worthless. The 84th saw the potential, and the rest is history. At one time they were the most valuable company in the world. 83 companies who's job it was to spot potential in small businesses missed this one.
