Hi,

Please vote NO on Amendment 6.

When you vote NO, you are voting in favor of a properly implemented

high-speed rail system in Florida that would provide significant social,

economic and

environmental benefits. Benefits would include reduced travel times, less

environmentally destructive road building and decreased air pollution.

Financially backed by road builders, car rental companies and airlines,

Amendment 6 would reverse the high-speed rail amendment already passed by

Florida

voters in 2000. That's why I plan on voting NO on 6, and why I'm asking you to

do the same.

MORE ON AMENDMENT 6 (From Mark Ferrulo, Director of Florida PIRG (Public

Interest Resource Group)):

If this issue sounds familiar, it's because in 2000, Florida voters passed a

Constitutional Amendment directing the Florida Legislature to develop and

operate a high speed ground transportation system to diversify our

transportation

system from one primarily dominated by roads and automobiles to one that

includes an alternative source of transportation.

Florida's future economic health will depend on a transportation system that

can successfully move growing numbers of residents and tourists in an

environmentally sustainable manner. Failure to meet transportation needs and

diversify

our transportation alternatives would jeopardize Florida's economic momentum,

our environment and our quality of life.

The financial backers of Amendment 6 are a group of powerful special

interests – road builders, big developers, rental car agencies and airlines

– who

don't want competition from a bullet train.

We will never be able to pave our way out of the current gridlock found on

our roads and more and more Floridians are beginning to realize this. That is

why in the 2000 election, Floridians voted for a progressive visionary

transportation system in Florida. The Florida legislature, current

administration in

Tallahassee, and " asphalt " lobby, didn't like the outcome of that vote, so

they have called for a " redo " . Now you will have to tell them again -- that

gridlock and the " status quo " are unacceptable.

High speed rail is environmentally friendly. It takes three times less land

than building roads, and fewer cars means less asthma and lung disease

inducing pollution and less dependency on foreign oil.

And, it makes economic sense. Phase one of the high speed rail project will

create 7,000 permanent new jobs and add more than $8.5 billion to Florida's

economy. Similar benefits will come with each new phase. And the financial

risks are borne by the private sector.

The bullet train opponents have unleashed a multimillion dollar ad campaign

of fear and distortion. We urgently need your help in fighting the special

interests.
