I am looking for a special live-in (Point Loma, San Diego) person or persons

to help care for a very special lady, my wife, who is bed-ridden due to

metastasized breast cancer having eaten away her T2-T3 vertebra. She is

paralyzed from the chest down. My wife, Geri, is usually very upbeat

although goes through periods of great pain and emotional overload, as does

the household. :-) Overall, I believe this will be a very uplifting and

life enhancing experience for any person who would choose to join us.

Duties could/would include:

Meal preparation and cleaning - we are currently only about 20% raw but have

been up to 70% raw and would like to move back in that direction.

Fetch and carry for wife - e.g.. Tooth brush, books, teas, food, etc.

Laundry and cleaning

Exercise/move her legs

Move wife up in bed and turn regularly

Bowel management, etc.

Occasional bathing - usually done by hospice

Occasional driving to shop or pick up 16 year old daughter

Jump into any other activities that go into making life so wonderful and

interesting.

I would continue to share all these duties/activities and have been doing

all this with minimal help from my wonderful 16 year old daughter, Ashley

( " minimal " due to her school and job at Sea World) and the occasional

visitor/guest/relative. We will continue to do our share but toll has been

getting too much and I would like to spend more time with Ashley and

planning for her future.

The current expectation is that Geri's condition will deteriorate further as

the cancer progresses so the person should be prepared for that eventuality

and for the workload, emotional load and pain to increase. However, we are

still hoping and working for a miracle and most doctors thought she would

have passed on by now and we look forward to you possibly experiencing that

with us. I think that most people will be amazed with the positive

atmosphere that usually engulfs our house in spite of the situation -

although the occasional " meltdowns " can be pretty intense and/or emotional

but always offer a new learning experience. Training or experience in

nursing or caring for an invalid would be a plus although I can teach a

caring/willing/positive person all of what needs to be done.

I would expect the person to work about 30 hours per week in return for

board and lodging and would be prepared to work around the person's other

schedule as I am retired and can adjust to do the other times. Any

additional time could be paid for by mutual arrangement.

Please email to kengullan a brief resume/info/details, your phone

number and best time for me to call. I will call you to arrange a meeting.

Please do NOT call me as Geri sleeps at irregular intervals. Many thanks

and I look forward to meeting that special person looking to join us in this

phase of our journey.

Best wishes and much love, Ken
