Guest guest
Anamaria, First, it's great that you are incorporating more raw into your diet. I've been eating 100% raw for several years. Remember it is an individual journey. As Zsuzsa mentioned, fruit is good in the morning. It is believed by many that we should begin with fruits and move into heavier things later. One general belief, as an ideal, is that we should eat one food per meal, when hungry, until full. While it may be an ideal, we may not achieve it overnight. It may not even be a goal of many raw people. I have found that when I eat more simply I do feel better. So, your path is unique to you. I wanted to throw this simplified idea out there, in case it appeals to you. That concept of one food per meal (like just a meal of bananas) is called mono eating. If you are eating only one food, which you did for a couple meals/snacks, the body is only digesting one food, which is easy to digest, so having more of the same thing is not a big issue, as long as one does not over-indulge. Eating your fill will more likely give you the calories and nutrients that you need. If you feel content and eating your fill doesn't feel right, then honor that. Regarding your nausea, a couple things come to mind. When people eat more simply and all raw, their bodies may begin detoxing, where toxins that the body has not had the opportunity to remove, begins removing them. " Detox " can appear in many different ways. Another thought is that I have had some issues with eating some fruits, such as mellons, mangos, and pears. When I eat more than just a small snack I may get some stomach discomfort. I don't know the exact reason. It could be they are not completely ripe, or they are hybredized, etc. What I have been working on - and it seems to help - is to thoroughly chew my food before swallowing, to offer my stomach a much easier time of digestion. A huge part of digestion can and should take place in the mouth. Regarding fruit vs. veggies, I've varied between 1 and 2 salads per day. I use to mix a variety of things in the salads, but over time my body has led me to eating simpler, so I stopped using raw dressings and just stick to the greens, often just one type of green. On occasion I may mix up a variety of things, such a s letuce, tomato, avocado, green onion, and even sea salt (gasp!) It tastes great, but bogs down my body a bit. I now do greens or other veggies usually twice a day and have fruits for other meals and snacks. I find bananas are a great snack food for work. They come pre-wrapped, with an easy open container, complete with a pull-tab! Regarding dried fruits and other foods, keep in mind, some companies dry their foods at extremely high temperatures, so some dried foods are not " raw " . Even if low temperature-dried, I still feel better on fresh raw foods - no dehydrated foods, though they are quite tasty and offer a great treat on occasion (though they will likely have some consequences - your body will tell you). >I left work early (at about 3 and had crappy food when I got home and >sure enough the nasea and head ache and hyper sensitive emotions >passed about 2 hours after eating my junk food. >Any suggestions on why this happened or how I could eat raw and make >it work? One issue with " detox " is that eating well will allow the body to begin healing and create these symptoms and eating poorly can make them stop. Bad food has the illusion of " helping " us overcome a problem by stopping pain and discomfort. It is a similar concept for medications. They may stop specific symptoms, but that is because they are toxic and stop the body's natural processes, even if those natural processes are good thing. I hope that helps.
