SO, I don't know if any of you look at magazine covers of health

magazines like I do, but there are a few articles on raw foods that

I have ran across lately. Spa magazine had a fairly positive article

in the may issue. Natural Home had a very small strip of a page.

But, the one that hit home was in a Alternative Medicine. I have

friends that tell me about this stuff also, as some people like to

tell you it isn't a good idea to eat only raw foods. Back to this

article. If anyone is interested in writing them about their poor

information, I will also include the address.

First of all, the writer starts off by commenting on a meal at

Juliano's restaurant " with oddly flavored pasty dressings and a

pungent aftertaste. " Then goes on to comment that a " raw-only

regimen for more than a few months at a time isn't optimal, as

stated by Elson Haas, physician and director of Preventive Medical

Center of Marin, in San Rafael, California. She continues on with

the " major safety issue " of food-borne illnesses from raw foods.

Now, let me finish with....... " Experts like Haas favor halfway

measures, such as sticking to raw foods for a few weeks at a time,

or leaving only part of our diet raw - eating an uncooked breakfast

and lunch, for instance, followed by a cooked dinner. That way you

can get the extra fiber, antioxidants, and cancer-fighting

phytochemicals that raw foods bring, while making up for the

deficits in protein, healthy fats, and important vitamins with

cooked foods. "

Now this is the May 2004 issue as the other magazines were and I

found it at the library. This is the most ridiculous article and her

information is incorrect and misleading. We wonder why more people

don't jump on board with raw foods.....this is a popular health

magazine with a negative article. About 15 pages later, there is an

article titled " Mad About Cow Disease, Government Efforts to

Safeguard Our Food Supply Fall Short. " Then skimming more, you

have " Diagnoses Mercury, If you like eating fish, chances are

there's mercury building up in your body. " Hey, if anyone is

interested in writing in and standing up for such ignorance in a

publication, here's your email editor

I would suggest getting your hands on the article for yourself to

read first. I just thought I would share this tidbit with you all.

Thanks all and have a wonderful raw day, Melissa
