Guest guest
Just some thoughts on " raw " maple syrup. That would of course be maple sap. When I was growing up in Vermont I helped collect sap. It's been a long time since I've had any, but I recall it's similar in sweetness and appearance to coconut water. The main difference, besides the trees being from different climates, is one tree gives up the beverage willingly! Jeff
Guest guest
Can maple syrup be brought in the raw state? Sounds like it would be better than honey if it was raw Jeff Rogers <jeff wrote:Just some thoughts on " raw " maple syrup. That would of course be maple sap. Guest guest
I brought some pure maple syrup into Berkley once, is that the same thing? Isn't California considered the raw state? :>) Jesse - " Nicholas Costanza " <jetpostman <rawfood > Wednesday, April 28, 2004 12:20 PM Re: [Raw Food] Re: raw maple syrup > Can maple syrup be brought in the raw state? Guest guest
> Can maple syrup be brought in the raw state? - No. What you can get in the raw state is maple sap before it's boiled down to syrup. But because it is in it's unpreserved form, it's difficult to keep more than a few days even refrigerated. You really need to contact a sugar bush operator and get some in season [early spring]. In the US search < " sugar bush " vermont>; In Canada < " sugar bush " quebec> or < " sugar bush " ontario>. The topic of Maple Syrup on this group is becasue of it's use in the Master Cleanse formula. It is NOT raw but because many members have used the Master Cleanse fast to set up for raw living it's is always an interesting topic on this group. Again, Maple Syrup is Not Raw and is Not used for it's sweetening taste in the Master Cleanse. It is used for the organic mineral content and the glucose helps to ease the effects of ketosis. Jeff was referring to the sap from which the syrup is made. BTW, there is great tradition of pouring some sap into the snow so it gets a taffee like constituancy, and then chewing it. It sort of glues the mouth shut like it was locked in peanut brittle. A tradition no doubt started by starving dentists:) rusty - " Nicholas Costanza " <jetpostman <rawfood > Wednesday, April 28, 2004 9:20 AM Re: [Raw Food] Re: raw maple syrup > Can maple syrup be brought in the raw state? Guest guest
As someone who grew up in St. Albans Vermont....the home of the Maple Sugar Festival .... I consider myself an addict to maple syrup!!! I know my dentist fees of youth probably paid my his mortgage! Anyway, be prepared.... the raw product from the tree tastes very different than the typical end product. - just so you know to expect a huge difference. It's like clear water ....just a little bit thicker and mildly sweet. Hopefully, you will get it strained as those sap buckets often had surprises in them of the non-vegetarian type!
