Guest guest
ANGELA WROTE: I am very overweight...For Lent I decided to give up cooked foods...I noticed right away that I had more energy and was happier... I fell asleep easier, slept all the way through and needed less sleep than ever before. I haven't lost very much weight though. ....wondering why...I do eat raw cheese, avocados, dates..high fat and sugar respectively. So... is something is wrong with me? I recently started walking and taking kelp tablets to jump start my metabolism. But I am stumped. I had a diet before that consisted of lots of fake soy meat, breads, pastas, rice, beans...Any feedback would be lovely. ~Angela ~*~*~*~ Dear Angela, You are doing great! Good for you for staying all raw for all of Lent!!! I have just lost 62 pounds and regained health and energy by eating all raw. I started on July 10, 2003 at 220 pounds and I'm now at my " wedding weight " (after 24 years of marriage) at 158 pounds. I went from a size 20 to a size 10. I am happy to share with you from my little bit of experience. We are like a walking chemistry lab and I decided I needed to study up and seek to understand a bit of biochemistry to figure out how to conquer obesity for once and for all. I have tried about any diet you could name! I was sick and tired of being sick and tired and FED UP WITH BEING FAT. Raw is the way to go! If you stick with it, YOU WILL LOSE THE EXCESS LBS. You can eat ALL you want, and whatever you want, as long as you stick to RAW living fruits and vegetables. I try to go light on nuts, though, as my source is doubtful and I think they dry them at too high of temperature so they are actually cooked. There is something addicting about nuts and I can overeat on them. Avocados are great! The fat in them (lipase?) is a good fat that we need and actually helps break down our fat stores. Another terrific fat that is ESSENTIAL is the omega 3 essential fatty acid from ground flax seeds. I grind a couple of tablespoons in an inexpensive electric coffee grinder (about $10 from Walmart) stir the ground seeds in water and drink it down. This helps with weight loss and also mental clarity and makes the skin luxuriously soft--even my elbows are soft! Angela, what I think is that you might have sabotaged yourself by not sticking to raw fresh fruits and vegetables. The dairy products, whether or not they are raw, are very difficult for humans to digest and are extremely rich, high in the wrong kind of fat and extremely mucous forming. Milk is for baby cows! (Raw milk that is. Some calves were fed pasteurized (cooked) milk and they died.) If you could cut out that raw cheese (which also has salt in it which is addicting) and stay away from dehydrated fruit (too sugary for now--I am waiting till I get to ideal weight; if I eat dates or any dehy. fruit, I do not lose weight.) then you will see AMAZING things happening in your body. A BRISK walk for about 15 to 20 minutes every morning is great to " jump start " the metabolism, as you put it. Be sure to work up a sweat! Jiggle the lymph to help rid system of toxins. I do not lose weight if I don't exercise every day, and if I don't drink my water, a pint four times a day. Also, do not let yourself get too hungry or your system goes into a " starvation mode " and holds onto fat for dear life! The best transition into raw for me has been juicing veges (spinach, chard, celery, carrot, apple) a pint two times a day, which I juice with a Champion juicer. (I plop in an ice-cube and drink with a straw. Delicious!) Vege juice floods the cells with instant nutrition and is SO satisfying. Cures cravings! Because the fiber is taken out, the juice bypasses our broken down digestive systems goes right into the bloodstream and gives us a nourishing boost. When the digestive system gets a break from digesting all that rich food, our body says, " Oh good now we have some energy to clean house! Let's start shoveling out some of this heavy fat stored away in here! " Have you experienced much detoxing/healing? It is hard sometimes, but so crucial to allow our body to clean out toxins a little at a time or we end up with serious illness or disease. Every time I go through detox or " a healing event " I lose weight and feel SO good afterwards. I just wrote about this in my health e-newsletter called " Health Seeker. " I will forward the last issue to you for you to see. You might like to read some of my past issues like, " A Day with Jenny " to see what I did each day. Let me know what works for you, ok? You are doing great, Angela. I know how wonderful it is to have more energy and sleep better and not need so much sleep--especially as a busy Mama. Keep up the good work! Guest guest
Jenny~ First of all, thanks so much for the informative, and supportive post. Second, regarding raw cheese..I have often thought that it was somehow hindering my raw food diet. I still wonder though..even with the cheese..I came from a diet with lots of pasta, breads, soy meat, regular cheese... you would think that going from *that* to raw foods with some raw cheese I would lose weight. I was recently in the waiting room at the hospital (my dad had a quadruple bypass surgery. strong heart, poor diet.part of my motivation) and began leafing through a medical journal. It talked about hypothyroidism and two big factors in our thyroid glan not working correctly...soy and fluoride. I personally have never run across that information before, and I think one of the reasons is that the soy industry, like the meat and dairy industries, is a big player now...soy milk in every grocery store, even some convenience stores. Anyway, I have consumed so much soy in the last 15 years. I am hoping that if something *is* wrong with my thyroid then raw foods will repair it. And I am absolutely going to try and eliminate the raw dairy. In another post of yours youmention someone named " Serene " ..is she someone from " above rubies " ? I have a friend who went to their retreat last year and talked about the radiant raw foodist there! The name stuck with me. thanks so much ~Angela jennysilliman wrote: Photos: High-quality 4x6 digital prints for 25¢
