drugs test (rights vs the state)

I am not so concerned about a drugs test but I am

concerned about the underlying impact & relationship

it gives us with the state.

Once state powers can intrude a little into our lives

(birth certificates / driving licences / drug tests)

we give away some of our human rights for the benefits

we receive.

That is ok..sometimes.

e.g. I do not mind being known as a NI number to get

free health treatment.

However, I would not appreciate being advised that I

eat certain foods.

Imagine if the schools rules included a clause that

stated children MUST drink half a pint of cows milk a

day to 'maintain calcium levels' - this would not be a

drastic measure to a meat eater but we would find that

abhorrent.

I am not for drug tests - I think that this pushes the

boundary just too far especially when tobacco &

alcohol are legal & accessible.

Regards,

Andy
