Guest guest
masonry bees?? i thought they were almost solitary?? hmm..maybe yer solitary bees are different from ours.. well, first, i'd watch em and see where they are going in... if its a place you can get at, use smoke to calm them down, then open up the area they are getting into(if you can)..remove the nest, (wear gloves) carefully!!!! then plug up the hole you might also try spraying some orange concentrate (not the fruit juice kind) around the entrance they are using..they won't like it(or shouldn't, its an irritant) and should abandon ship make sure you get the stuff that is used to clean or discourage insects, they sell several different types here..you can even get organic orange spray....make sure it isn't just some sweet smelling spray, or you'll just encourage them good luck! cheers fraggle

Guest guest
Hope somebody can help me here.... I've got lots and lots of masonary bees, hanging around the front of my house, I've been keeping an eye on them and I'm pretty sure they are going in - so I assume they must have a hive inside. Alas they are most active just around the front door - which makes coming and going a bit disconcerting, to say the least. I've just phoned up a beekeeper to see if there is any way of moving the bees, ie catching the queen or whatever, but he said no, unless they are swarming - anyway he recommended either kill them or live with them... I cant kill them, and hanging around the front door, I'm a bit wary that one day I might upset them or that my cats might antagonise them, and then what to do..... Even if I could just move them on from the front of the house - I dont mind if they get in to their hive at the other end of the house.... Anyway in a bit of a quandary and would appreciate any advice Cheers, Joeann Get personalised at My .
Guest guest
Hello! I looked up masonry bees on the internet and this is what it said. " Masonry bees are similar in coloration to the honey bee. They do not swarm, their stings do not penetrate the skin and they are beneficial in promoting plant pollination. They can, however, cause damage to buildings, which can be quite severe over several seasons. " So if what you've got is masonry bees, and you don't mind them cohabitating with you,you have no problem.(the web address where I got this information is: http://www.rushcliffe.gov.uk/health/pestcontrol/masonrybeesadvice.htm Annie --- joeann cantillon <goosy_gander wrote: > > Hope somebody can help me here.... Guest guest
Just wanted to add you might want to try doing this at night as they are -- what is the antonym for nocturnal? -- well, whatever, they are day dwellers and thus inactive at night... I guess you don't want to seal em in though. Maybe you could try the orange stuff at night and see what happens the next day? I heard peppermint oil is a good bug deterrant as well, but I tried it with ants and it didn't do much good... Maybe orange is better? Their nest is actually *inside* the outer wall of your home, right? Like in bricks or something? I'm sure you could find something at the hardware store to plug it up with (after they peacefully go away, of course Good suggestions, Fraggle!!! jojo - <EBbrewpunx Saturday, May 11, 2002 10:21 AM Re: Masonary bee's ...... what to do??
