Responsible for the ecological zoning of the 1.8 million hectare Uru-Eu-Uau-Uau

indigenous reserve in Rondonia, the NGO Associação de Defesa Etno-Ambiental

(Ethno-Environmental Defence Association) has located two new primate species in

a sanctuary between the Jamari and Jaru rivers. The names of the new species

have still not been classified scientifically.

According to forest engineers Renato Uchoa and Luís Carlos, 400 new plant

species were collected during the surney of the area. The plants are being

classified by botanists at the National Institute of Amazonian Research in

Manaus.
