Guest guest
Hello, My name is Julie and I'm new to this chat group. I just wanted to introduce myself and say why I went vegan. I always wanted to be vegetarian (ever since I knew where meat comes from), but my parents said it wasn't healthy. At the age of 14, I finally convinced them - they said it would be " ok " as long as I ate lots of dairy for protein. After I discovered more info about factory farming, I begged them to let me eliminate dairy from my diet, but they refused. My father (a doctor) said that vegans are very sickly and die young. My mother would hear nothing of it. Once I started college (this year) I could eat as I liked, and I have tried to keep a vegan diet since then. It's hard because there isn't much to choose from at the dining hall, and sometimes I have cravings for my favorite junk foods, but I'm doing pretty well for my first year, I guess. Well, anyway, I just wanted to say how nice it is to receive e-mails from people who don't think veganism is stupid, or weird, or unhealthy (as my family, friends, and college floormates all do.) It's very hard being a vegan at such a conservative place. I made some friends at the beginning of the year but scared them off with my " radical " ideas, and have yet to meet another vegan here, at college. Thanks. -Julie Tax Center - online filing with TurboTax http://taxes./
