Which is in fact a confession by Yahweh that there are other gods! You'll note he doesn't state "there are no other gods", but "you shall worship no other gods" - very interesting difference.

 

I also wonder - if Christians believe in only Yahweh (the god who gave the commandments to Moses), why did El not get written out of the bible?

Simon,

that's because he was jealous and couldn't stand the competition. Yahweh was only the god of the Israel people and other countries had their own gods, which were as much alive as was Yahweh.
