Muckdonalds parties - any other parents had to face this and what did you do?

As a vegan parent I am so fed up of how many other parents have their kids'

parties at McDonalds. It's an easy option I guess, so I can see why it is

popular, and I often think it would be nice to have such an easy option for

vegan families. Both my son and my daughter have had one proper birthday

party for their schoolfriends so far and we would only do it for each of

them once every three years or so, it's hard work so we just have a special

day out as a family for most birthdays.

My 6 year old daughter just had her first invitation to a McDonalds party on

Monday, we will be away at the time of the party anyway, but even so no way

would she be going since I heard they even use beef flavouring in the chips

there (in the US anyway, so I don't trust them).

At least if parents have their child's party almost anywhere else, we can

send some vegan food along with our kids and let them attend the party. I've

done that a few times with both my son and my daughter, but this is the

first time we have been faced with a McDonalds invitation.

Unlike most children, mine know that Ronald McDonald is a nasty man because

he encourages children to eat animals.

I sent the reply slip back to the mum with a note explaining how we are

vegans and that McDonalds does not consider vegans and I enclosed with my

response a London Greenpeace " What's Wrong with McDonalds? " leaflet as I

still had some floating about the flat from my days pre-parenthood when I

was quite an animal rights activist, so the parents will be in no doubt at

all of all the evil behind the McDonalds corporation, and that they are

making a choice for their child's party that excludes a minority group.

Here's a big raspberry to omni parents who have their kids parties at

Muckdonalds :P~
