Guest guest
Hi Goosey- I did post yesterday, but I think alot of people must have missed it, that my original email (part quoted below) on this subject was intended to be ironic/sarcastic... My view is that to give blood is an act of unqualified altruism, this is a *good* thing in my view. Any attempts at eroding this principle by any sort of vetting of who should and should and shouldn't get blood, be they donor pressure groups (including vegans) or the health authorities, are unethical. Cheers, Graham > > Hi Graham, > > >PS. How's about a scheme where only those who give > >blood are entitled > >to recieve blood back? Seems fair to me, and no more > >difficult for the NHS to administer than some vegans > >only register scheme... > > > aaaaahhh, disaster - you have to be over 8 stone to > give blood and I'm not - > Actually in Ireland, you have to pay if you use the > hospital, including accident & emergency, but they run > a scheme whereby you build up points when you give > pints and these can be redeemed against any hospital > visits! summat like that anyway - > take care, > Joeann > >
Guest guest
Hi Graham, I did reckon you weren't being serious - but I was just trying to justify (mostly to myself) why I dont give blood - which I do feel guilty about - and personally I wouldnt care who my blood went to - we've all got as much right to this life as the next one - and ok, some people dont share our ideals and actually take life, but then thats their life (hmm, too many life's in that sentence) >> My view is that to give blood is an act of unqualified altruism, this is a *good*<BR> thing in my view.
