Much easier to navigate! Check it out at www.vegtravel.com ====================================================================== DONNA AND JEFF'S GREAT ADVENTURES- With Jeff's birthday in January, I am always looking for new places to go and get away for a weekend. Well I have found vegan heaven, and it is here in Virginia! We picked up my stepson Trevor and his girlfriend Kim who live in Charlottesville Virginia and drove for about 45 minutes south to a town called Schulyer Virginia. Schuyler, best known as the childhood home of author Earl Hamner, and inspiration for the television series The Walton's, is a small town in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. When you arrive at the White Pig you feel as though you have gone back in time about 100 years. It is located on over 170 acres of open land and forest. There have only been 2 other owners prior to the current ones but the renovations and time and care that this couple has put into it is incredible. I wanted to go there because I had heard that Dina, one of the owners was trained as a chef at the Natural Cookery School in Manhattan NY and I am always looking for that perfect vegan dinner. Well as I found out Dina worked previously at the famous vegan restaurant in San Francisco, The Millenium. This is my favorite restaurant in the world! I knew now that we would hit it off. To top it off Dina made my favorite Chocolate Mousse cake for dessert! Well back to the bed and breakfast. Jeff and I stayed in the Jacob Room- The Jacob Room is located on the second floor. This room features a giant picture window that overlooks winter mountain views and warm summer forest views. The room boasts a carved cherry bed, a private hallway, and a bathroom with the original claw foot tub with shower and a separate water closet. The hunter green, plaid and floral fabrics that grace the room create a unique environment for your enjoyment during your stay. Trevor and Kim stayed in the Olive Room- The Olive Room is located on the second floor of the residence. This room features lovely meadow views, a lounge area and small-attached bath with shower only. This uniquely feminine room captures a Colonial feel with its Mahogany four poster bed, chaise, and floral décor. The first thing that you notice when you arrive is how many pigs (mostly fake ones with the exception of their 4 companion pigs in the other house where they live) are in the house. I could not even count them, there were so many! People and friends from all over give them to them as gifts all the time so they have quite the collection. But it is done all in good taste. Everything here is vegan and so you never have to worry about a thing. Even your non-vegetarian friends and family will enjoy the wonders of this vegan oasis.
