Want sustainable, not corporate controlled agriculture? Have ten hours a week to volunteer on one of the most dynamic GE food campaigns? If the answer is YES, then the Greenpeace True Food Regional Organizer program may be for you! The Program: Greenpeace is looking for activists to work with us as True Food Network Organizers on our Genetically Engineered (GE) food campaign. Organizers will assist with the Greenpeace GE food campaign by: - Organizing local events (e.g. leafleting events in front of local supermarkets, speaker events at community centers, etc.) - Communicating with members of the public and the media - Networking with local groups and the community The program includes free organizing skills training, a stipend to cover basic material costs, networking with other Regional Organizers and the chance to work on some of the most dynamic campaigns to stop genetically engineered food and promote sustainable agriculture. The program begins in March with a training and orientation for all the organizers. The program is will last for 12 months. Regular conference calls and support from Greenpeace campaigners will be on going throughout the year. The Regions: We are looking for activists in these cities: Austin Boston Burlington, VT Chicago Denver Los Angeles Phoenix Sacramento Seattle Tucson Qualifications: Whether you are a member of a local group already working on the GE food issue or just someone ready to get active in your community, you should consider applying. We are looking for people passionately opposed to GE foods and interested in publicly working with Greenpeace on local campaign activities, including local petition drives, community events and outreach to local groups. We are looking for people with good communication skills, the ability to work well independently and some organizing experience (whether it is organizing your local PTA fund raiser or petition drive with your Green Party chapter). Application process: Applications are due February 25th, please include references. Applicants will be notified by March 4th if you are accepted into the program. If accepted, we will have a weekend long orientation and training in your area. We will provide travel, accommodation and food.
