Guest guest
What I really need to know is things like, what do they like to play with other than loo rolls, how do I avoid getting bitten (no idea how tame he/she is/isn't), how much time should he/she spend playing outside the cage everyday, are metal wheels ok for hams (I know they're not for rats or gerbils because of tails), he loves his ball but is it safe for him? All those sorts of things. I've taken on a wee beastie from someone who had so little interest that they don't know his sex, have never handled him, didn't give him a name, have never given him fresh food or any toys whatever and who allowed algae to grow in his water bottle. They used to clean him out and put him in his ball occasionally, but that was all. Why do people have animals??!!! I've joined a hammy list and asked there, but it's a bit difficult as all the moderators on the list are breeders. My mate Nigel (who runs a rescue centre) says the only good breeder is a dead breeder. He regularly gets gp breeders phoning him up to take the excess that they've deliberately bred but can't sell because they've got too old or are an unpopular colour. So I don't blame him for his extreme stance! The only thing to be said for this situation is at least they're trying to offload them to rescue rather than drowning them. I digress. I'm going. Bye for now. Cathy p.s. His cage is only about three times his body length long and he has bald patches on his back where he squeezes under the platform to sleep - I'm getting a rat cage for him! - Angie Wright Tuesday, February 05, 2002 11:09 PM Re: Re:Hamsters Is there anything else to know ? Guest guest
Hi Fraggle - thought you were hibernating! Please see my response to Angie for the depths of my ignorance about hamsters. Is the Fraggle related to the hamster at all? Cathy - EBbrewpunx Tuesday, February 05, 2002 11:35 PM RE: Re: Re:Hamsters wot does ya need to know??
