Allotments are patches of land that you can rent, usually from the

council, in order to grow your own vegetables and such like. They

have a long tradition in this country for being the only access to

land that many people, especially the working classes, have.

Many allotment sites are now under threat as local authorities want

to sell them off as prime sites for 'development', so supporting

allotments is becomming increasingly political!
