Guest guest
> and, a question..just fer us folks across the pond, wot in bacchus' name is > an allotment anyways?? i think i have general idea wot it is, but, its > foreign to us over here Allotments are patches of land that you can rent, usually from the council, in order to grow your own vegetables and such like. They have a long tradition in this country for being the only access to land that many people, especially the working classes, have. Many allotment sites are now under threat as local authorities want to sell them off as prime sites for 'development', so supporting allotments is becomming increasingly political! Here's a link to Dig For Revolution- a booklet I wrote in the 80's about allotments & guerilla gardening (not to be confused with Gorilla gardening!!) http://pages.unisonfree.net/gburnett/dfr/dfr.htm and a more recent piece for the UK permaculture magazine about allotments; http://pages.unisonfree.net/gburnett/essay/allotment1.htm and one about permaculture & food growing for the Raven Anarchist quarterly; http://pages.unisonfree.net/gburnett/raven/Ravenpc.htm Cheers Graham www.landandliberty.co.uk
