Guest guest
Kathleen Jannaway used to have a recipe (it may be in one of the Movement For Compassionate Living publications) for 'vegan cheese'- It was basically this; Melt some hard vegan marg, eg, Tomor in a small pan over a gentle heat Thoroughly stir in an equal amount of soya flour Add a very small amount of yeast extract for flavour Leave to set. Makes a hard slicable cheese substitute. Using a soft margerine will make a 'cheese' spread. You can also add herbs, eg, chives, etc for extra flavour. Doesn't sound too inspiring on paper (or indeed your monitor) does it, but as I remember it was OK- we used to make it quite alot, tho have got out of the habit lately, and it only takes a couple of minutes. As i remeber results could be variable, but with practice it used to turn out well. Hope this helps, Graham www.landandliberty.co.uk >Message: 22 Fri, 18 Jan 2002 19:55:14 -0000 " shelloid " <shelloid Cheese again >Ok I know we had a big 'cheese' discussion a little while ago, but I was washing up the other day and it suddenly popped into my head that I read a vegan recipe book a couple of years ago and it had a recipe in for making vegan 'cheese'. Just wondering if any one had tried making their own 'cheese' and if they had how the hell did it turn out? Not asking coz I want to make any but just v. curious as I remember at the time thinking something along the lines of ' Bloody hell this sounds really discusting!' >Shelloid
