Guest guest
Well now, Today in school was quite entertaining. They hauled all of the 17-20 year old students (I'm 18 in case you're wondering) to the auditorium to teach us why we should vote and how to register to vote- followed by a registration form. I didn't mean to be so cynical but I looked around the room and instantly thought, " JEsus ChrisT! With all of these idiots voting it just can't be good! " But we know if voting could really change anything it would be illegal. The grassroots parties could recieve 75% of the votes and still either a Republican or a Democrat would be sat on the throne (depending upon who is more important at the time). I wondered to myself anyway just who these kids (who, in their pseudo-glamorous lifestyles, didn't understand many world issues) would vote for. There was a section in the registration card that said, POLITICAL AFFILIATION/PARTY: Democratic, Republican, Libertarian, Green, Socialist, Reform, and other ________. I moved over to a small group of girls who were discussing this. They were laughing and not taking anything seriously and one even asked with a big fat giggle, " What political party should I pick? " and one replied, " I'm republican " . I jumped into the conversation and they were of course utterly shocked because they didn't know who I was. I asked her, " What exactly IS a republican? " . HEr face turned bloodshot and she replied, " I don't know, that's what my mother and father are " . I shattered into laughter on the inside but managed to stay focused on the outside, " Oh, okay, I was just wondering because I haven't a clue what any of this means " I noted. She gets a burst of , hmm, I don't know (let's have our moment crap), and confidently said, " well here, just check republican " as she tried to reach for my registration card. I yanked the registration card away from her and made sure she knew that she was a stupid fuck, and, by means of social circumstances, all of her friends decided to richly insult me, whereupon I closed, " Desist!, you filthy brainwashed republicans. You're empowering another human being with your pathetic ignorance and carelessness. Why don't you actually learn about what you so blindly support? " I walked away in a disgusted, arrogant manner. And heard, " who gives a fuck? " , " Damn I hate people like him " . haha, just thought I would share my wonderful afternoon with you all Cheers! That's actually an improvement on over here. In the US, you have primaries, so the " grassroots " have some control over who stands for them. The ideal would be the Irish electoral system, in which you can choose between different candidates from the same party without wasting your vote. -- Ian McDonald http://www.tardis.ed.ac.uk/~type40/alternative.html http://travel.to/startrekcolony - Star Trek: Colony site & .mov http://www.tardis.ed.ac.uk/~type40/who-rpg.html - Dr. Who RPGs
