Guest guest
HLS: THAR SHE BLOWS - ANIMAL PIRATES SINK BANK EXEC S YACHT! ______________ URGENT NEWS ADVISORY July 21, 2001 For Immediate Release July 26th, 2001 (Long Island, NY) A group calling itself the Pirates for Animal Liberation sent anonymous communiqu & #40160;early Tuesday morning claiming responsibility for the sinking of a Bank of New York Executive s yacht. The executive, Brian G. Rogan, who acts as the bank s President of Capital Markets, has been targeted before by animal rights protestors on Long Island for the BNY s financial services provided to the notorious animal testing laboratory Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS). Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty (SHAC), an international pressure group campaigning to close down the scandalous laboratory HLS, received the anonymous communiqu & #38948;etailing, in a tongue in cheek demeanor, the economic sabotage that was inflicted. According to the communiqu & #38931;20 holes were drilled in the right side of his 30 foot yacht, and one 6 inch by 6 inch hole was sawed through the right hull. Various workings of the boat were also tampered with. As the boat began to take on water it was cut loose and pushed out to sea The Pirates for Animal Liberation left messages denouncing the BNY s connection to HLS such as money means nothing - life means everything. This latest attack on the Bank of New York comes on the heels of several legal and illegal means of protest on Long Island against the bank. In mid-June, five LI bank branches were attacked by the Animal Liberation Front as several windows were smashed, red paint thrown onto buildings, and ATM machines were glued up. There has also been a massive march in Huntington Village where over 100 demonstrators protested to demand that the BNY sever ties with HLS. HLS, based in the UK with two labs there and an additional lab located in East Millstone, New Jersey, is one of the world s biggest animal testing labs. HLS tests agrochemical and pharmaceutical products on puppies, cats, monkeys, rabbits, and a number of other animals killing roughly 180,000 a year. Activists internationally have committed themselves to shutting down HLS after five undercover investigations have shown workers punching beagle puppies in the face, dissecting a live monkey, transplanting a frozen pig s heart into a baboon, falsifying scientific data, and violating procedures for animal welfare. According to the SHAC spokesperson, SHAC is a legal campaign and the P.A.L. s action was unsolicited, but enthusiastically welcomed. HLS has been warned for the 500 animals they murder everyday there is 500 different strategies the animal rights movement will use to shut them down. Iwould anticipate seeing more creative and hard-hitting tactics like this in the future.
