Server Burps

You can always tell if a message is a repeat or a server problem. Just look

at the message header

Message-Id: <20001022144113.IYGR4426.mta10.onebox.com

Message-Id: <20001022144113.IYGR4426.mta10.onebox.com

Message-Id: <20001022144113.IYGR4426.mta10.onebox.com

Message-Id: <20001022144113.IYGR4426.mta10.onebox.com

These lines from the different messages shows that it was received by

Ashley's mail server ONCE. As we all got four of them them with EXACTLY the

same message ID in each message the problem was outside of Ashley's control.

Now it may have been sent by onebox.com four times or four times, or

possibly there was a hiccup in the transfer which caused an error, that

resulted in a retry four times.

X-eGroups-Return:

sentto-123679-9951-972225675-xxx=xxx.net (AT) returns (DOT)

X-eGroups-Return:

sentto-123679-9952-972229131-xxx=xxx.net (AT) returns (DOT)

X-eGroups-Return:

sentto-123679-9953-972229994-xxx=xxx.net (AT) returns (DOT)

X-eGroups-Return:

sentto-123679-9955-972236140-xxx=xxx.net (AT) returns (DOT)

Now if you look further into the message header you will see that the

message was received by four times.

123679-9951 <<< The message ID's

123679-9952

123679-9953

123679-9955

Which means that got four messages, but onebox.com only got one.

So, for some reason onebox decided to send the message four times.

Of course, all this is unavailable to you if you receive your messages in

digest form where you don't have the headers.

I don't think it would be too unreasonable to ask to set their

system up so that any message with EXACTLY the same message ID not be sent

again - at least within a reasonable time, say one day?
