Steaming fennel is the easiest way to prepare the bulb. I like to broil or grill it once steamed, then use it as garnish on a green salad. Trim off tops of fennel and remove tough outer leaves. Thickly slice each bulb, place in steamer and steam for 5 minutes. Drain, place in shallow baking dish. Brush surface of fennel with olive oil. Broil 4 to 5 inches from heat source for 1 to 2 minutes, or until lightly browned.
