Guest guest Posted October 12, 2000 Report Share Posted October 12, 2000 * Exported from MasterCook * Impromptu Party Chili Recipe By : The Vegetarian Chili Cookbook, by Robin Robertson, page 86 Serving Size : 6 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories : Beans And Legumes Soups And Stews Soyfoods Vegetables Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 2 cups chunky salsa 4 tablespoons chili powder commercial or homemade (see separate recipes) 4 ounces canned chopped green chiles 6 ounces canned tomato paste 2 cups water 12 ounces cooked ground beef alternative -- see note 32 ounces canned pinto beans Salt and fresh-ground black pepper -- to taste This is a rich, flavorful chili that tastes like it took al day to prepare but pulls together in a snap with ingredients from your pantry. The bits of onion, bell pepper, and celery in the salsa save you the step of chopping fresh vegetables. In a large chili pot over medium heat, mix the salsa and chili powder until well blended. Add the green chiles, tomato paste and water, and stir well. Bring to a boil, lower the heat, and simmer 30 minutes, stirring often. Add the ground beef alternative, pinto beans, and salt and pepper, and simmer 15 minutes longer to heat through and thicken. Serve with your favorite accompaniments. Note: Such as Morningstar Farms Burger-Style Recipe Crumbles or Green Giant Harvest Burgers for Recipes. Both come in 12-ounce packages and are " precooked " or already browned.
