Guest guest
Today we stopped at a new bookstore and I had a chance to look through many cookbooks that I had been reading about. For the first time I saw Joy of Cooking : All About Vegetarian Cooking (Joy of Cooking) by Irma S. Rombauer, Marion Rombauer Becker, Ethan Becker. Karen G. saw this book at Amazon.com month's ago and pointed it out to me. This vegetarian cookbook is part of a new series of cookbooks. The publisher's divided the recipes from the Joy of Cooking (I'm assuming the latest version because Becker is listed as an author) and then put them in several smaller cookbooks. Others might have been pasta, soups, etc--I didn't pay much attention to them. Each book is on glossy paper and has many color photos. The vegetarian book has about 100 recipes from the Joy of Cooking plus lots of cooking charts and tips. It lists for $19.95. I looked at it and then returned it to the shelf. Atlantic Bookstore had the full Joy for $12.95. Kathleen
Guest guest
my two cents: I have the Joy of Cooking full ( meat included) cookbook- and I use it sooooo often, that I wouldn't even think of buying the vegetarian one. It's the perfect cook book to start cooking with. If you don't know how to boil an egg- it's in there.. If you're making you're first apple pie- it's in there ( bets apple pie ever) , my favorite lasagna- adapted to a vegetarian recipe from a recipe in that book... have some extra mangoes you don't know what to do with?- you'll find something in there. it has all types of ethnic foods too- and all grains- like kumut, wheat berries, quinoa...I think I use this book more than my carnivorous friends! And for those of you still on fish- this explains everything about fish, which are interchangeable, etc... It's like a cooking bible. It even has lists of fat, colories, etc for many common foods...like a slice of cheese, or a bananna! It's a great christmas gift idea if any of you have kids or cousins, friends or whatever just moving into their own apartment. No - I don't get paid by these people.. haha- it's just the one book I wouldn't be without.
