Apple, Fig, and Blackberry Compote

8 fresh figs -- halved

5 firm green or golden apples -- peeled, cored, and cut

into 1/2-inch-thick wedges

2 cups blackberries

1/2 cup sugar

3 tablespoons sugar

finely grated zest of 1/2 lemon

1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

1/2 cup water

1/2 cup creme fraiche or Gouda cheese

 

In a large bowl, combine the figs, apples, blackberries, sugar, lemon zest,

juice, and water. Transfer the mixture to a medium saucepan and cook over low

heat for 2 minutes. Cover and let cool to room temperature.

 

Serve with a dollop of creme fraiche or a slice of Gouda cheese.
