Watermelon Lemonade

1 cup sugar

1/4 cup water

2 cups watermelon, peeled, seeded, and -- diced

1 cup fresh lemon juice

1 quart carbonated water

 

Bring sugar and 1/4 cup water to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring

constantly, until sugar dissolves.

Press watermelon with back of a spoon through a fine, wire-mesh strainer,

discarding pulp. Combine watermelon juice, sugar syrup, and lemon juice in a 2

quart pitcher. Chill.

Add carbonated water to juice mixture just before serving; serve over ice.

green tea

granulated sugar cubes

fresh mint sprigs

 

Rinse a large teapot with 2 quarts of hot water. Place 2 to 3 teaspoons of

green tea in the pot and pour a little boiling water over it. Remove the water

afterward. Add lump sugar to taste (usually 20 cubes for a large teapot) and

fill the teapot halfway with boiling water. Add fresh mint sprigs and let steep

for several minutes.

The tea is typically served in small slender glasses.

3 1/4 cups crushed ice

1/2 cup sifted powdered sugar

1 6 oz can frozen lemonade concentrate -- thawed & undiluted

1 6 oz can frozen limeade -- thawed & undiluted

1 1/2 cups club soda -- chilled

garnish: lime slices

 

Combine first four ingredients in a large freezer container; cover and

freeze several hours or until firm.

To serve, remove mixture from freezer, let stand at room temperature 30

minutes. Spoon half of mixture into container of an electric blender; add half

of club soda. Cover and process until smooth. Repeat blending process. Pour

into glasses and garnish if desired.
